Dean for Environmental Sustainability
Cardiff University

Mike Bruford is Professor of Biodiversity at Cardiff School of Biosciences and Dean for Environmental Sustainability at Cardiff University. He is a conservation biologist who works on endangered species and rare livestock breed management, both in the UK and across the globe. He is especially interested in how species are adapting and could adapt to climate change in the future, combining genomics, behaviour and climate modelling. He is academic lead for Welsh Government’s Biodiversity Ecosystem Evidence Research Needs program and is co-Chair of the IUCN’s genetics specialist group. Through his work as Dean, he is closely involved with Cardiff University’s pathway development to Net Zero for 2030, following the University’s Climate Emergency Declaration in 2019.
