Ms Alison Smith

Senior Research Associate
Environmental Change Institute

I am a senior research associate at the Environmental Change Institute and also at the Nature-based Solutions Initiative, both at the University of Oxford. My work focuses on methods of mapping and assessing the value of nature for people, covering a range of related topics including nature-based solutions, natural capital, ecosystem services and green infrastructure. I have worked closely with local stakeholders in Oxfordshire and elsewhere in the UK, producing natural capital maps and simple tools such as the Environmental Benefits from Nature (EBN) tool which is currently being Beta tested by Natural England. I have also worked with the Welsh Government, developing a model of land use system trade-offs to help inform their Net Zero strategy.
